DEATHWOODS Brings Old-School Slasher Carnage to Theater Before Screambox Debut

Updated: 7 days ago

You’ll bring a sleeping bag — but you’ll leave in a body bag. Fans of practical gore and classic slasher films have another blood-soaked title to add to their watchlist. Deathwoods, an upcoming independent horror film from Dark Dreams Productions, Simpatico Pictures, and Doctor Horror, draws inspiration from cult favorites like The Burning, Madman, and Pieces, delivering a modern slasher built around practical effects, brutal kills, and backwoods terror.

The film will make its world premiere on August 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Tara Atlanta (2345 Cheshire Bridge NE, Atlanta, Georgia) before heading to Screambox later this summer, as well as digital and streaming.

Set in the forests surrounding Old Hickory, Tennessee, Deathwoods follows Scott, who joins friends on a camping trip after a painful breakup. What begins as a chance to move forward quickly spirals into a fight for survival as an old local legend emerges from the shadows.

One by one, the group falls victim to the terrifying force said to haunt the woods.

The film's mythology traces back twenty years to the murder-suicide of the Wallace family. Stories of a grotesquely mutated child survived long after the tragedy itself, growing into an urban legend that Scott and his friends soon discover carries a horrifying truth.

Deathwoods was created by writer and executive producer Scott Conner and co-directed by Jake Kopronica (Purgatory Station, Int. Hallway/Night) and Deryk Wehrley (Crust, Watchdog, Zombieland: Double Tap). Kopronica also co-wrote, produced, and appears in the film, while Wehrley handled the special effects makeup. Cinematographer Jaren J. Lewis (Crust, Watchdog, Deadly Endings) brings the film's gritty visual style to life.

The ensemble cast features horror icon Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp, Terrifier 2, Victor Crowley), LC Holt (You're Next, V/H/S 2), KateLynn E. Newberry (Juror #2), Jessa Jupiter Flux (Murdercise), Celeste Blandon, and introduces Miles Dimitri Baker of Ice Nine Kills in his acting debut alongside Anthony Dain, Kellan Jackson, and MacKenzie Lee.

Tickets for the world premiere are currently available through Dark Dreams Productions. Horror fans looking for a throwback slasher packed with practical gore and old-school atmosphere will want to keep Deathwoods on their radar when it arrives on Screambox later this summer.
